Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed answers about how POM works, what screening includes, and how care is managed.

What exactly is POM Health?

POM Health is an oncologist led comprehensive cancer screening program designed to detect cancer as early as possible, ideally at Stage I when it is most treatable.

We combine multi cancer early detection blood testing, advanced cancer biomarkers, genetic risk screening, and full body MRI in our Competitor Prime plan. Every subscriber has a direct oncologist relationship, and every result is reviewed by an oncologist.

Most screening today is limited to a small number of cancers and begins later in life. POM takes a broader proactive approach using multiple technologies together.

How is POM different from my annual physical?

Primary care cancer screening typically starts after age 45, covers only a handful of cancers (5/200+), and occurs every few years. It is also not overseen by an oncologist.

POM is built specifically around cancer detection. Every subscriber meets with an oncologist. Screening is broader, annual, and designed to reduce blind spots using overlapping detection methods.

You continue your regular medical care and guideline recommended screenings. POM strengthens your cancer detection strategy.

Why does early detection matter so much?

The difference between Stage I and Stage IV cancer is often the difference between cure and life extending treatment.

Late stage cancers frequently require aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, or major surgery. Early stage cancers are more likely to be treated with localized therapy and have dramatically better outcomes.

Nearly half of cancers in the United States are still diagnosed at Stage III or IV. POM’s goal is to shift detection earlier.

  • Stage I cancers often have 5 year survival rates above 90 percent
  • Stage IV cancers often have 5 year survival rates below 20 percent

What cancers does POM screen for?

Depending on the plan, POM screens for signals associated with approximately 90 percent of cancers.

This includes many cancers that currently have no recommended screening, such as pancreatic, ovarian, liver, and certain blood cancers.

No single test detects every cancer. POM increases coverage by combining multiple detection methods that overlap intentionally.

What is Galleri and why does POM use it?

Galleri is a multi cancer early detection blood test that looks for cancer related DNA fragments circulating in the bloodstream.

It screens for more than 50 cancer types and has a very high negative predictive value. If a signal is detected, it can predict the tissue of origin with high accuracy.

POM partners with Grail to offer Galleri because it is one of the most clinically validated multi cancer early detection tools available.

Why does POM combine multiple types of tests?

Cancer is biologically complex. Different cancers release different signals, and no single detection modality captures them all.

Liquid biopsy may miss very small solid tumors. MRI may miss microscopic disease. Biomarkers vary by cancer type. Genetic testing identifies inherited risk but not active disease.

By layering modalities, POM improves overall detection probability and reduces blind spots.

What happens if something abnormal is found?

You are not left alone to interpret results.

If a cancer signal or concerning finding appears, your care path is directed by your oncologist.

Every result has a defined clinical pathway led by a world class oncologist.

  1. Your oncologist reviews the results in detail.
  2. You meet to discuss what it means.
  3. A clear next step is recommended.
  4. Referrals and additional diagnostics are coordinated if needed.

Is POM covered by insurance?

POM operates as an out of pocket subscription service.

Most advanced screening tests are not covered for asymptomatic individuals under current insurance guidelines. If follow up diagnostic testing is required, those services may be covered depending on your insurance plan.

Who is POM designed for?

POM is designed for adults who want a more comprehensive cancer detection strategy than standard screening provides.

It is especially appropriate for the groups below.

It is not intended for individuals currently undergoing active cancer treatment.

  • Adults ages 30 to 65
  • Individuals with a family history of cancer
  • Health conscious professionals
  • Those already investing in preventive health

How much time does screening take each year?

Most subscribers spend between two and four hours total per year.

Typical flow includes online enrollment, a telehealth intake visit, laboratory testing, MRI for Prime members, and an oncologist review with results discussion.

Our screening plans are designed to be thorough without being disruptive or invasive.

How often should I get screened?

Cancer risk increases with age. One time and infrequent screens provide a snapshot, but do not manage ongoing risk.

POM recommends annual screening while continuing all guideline recommended screening such as mammograms, colonoscopies, and skin exams.

What states is POM currently available in?

POM is currently available in a limited beta format in the states below.

If you live outside these states, you can join our waitlist to be notified when we launch in your area.

  • Massachusetts
  • New York
  • Florida

If I live outside of POM's service areas, can I still get a POM screen?

Yes, but your consultations with your POM oncologist need to occur when you are physically in one of our service areas due to healthcare regulations.

You will also need to be able to give samples at a Quest Diagnostics location in the US and get Prenuvo scan at one of their locations in the US, UK, or Canada for our Prime tier.

You can visit Quest and Prenuvo locations outside of our service areas.

Are there risks to screening?

All medical testing involves tradeoffs.

Possible considerations include false positives, incidental MRI findings, anxiety during follow up testing, and in rare cases overdiagnosis.

However, the risk of detecting cancer late, when survival rates drop significantly, is often far greater. POM’s oncologist led model is designed to manage these tradeoffs responsibly.

How does POM compare to Prenuvo, Function, Superpower, or Biograph?

Several premium health platforms offer cancer testing and imaging. The key difference is focus and depth of coverage.

Cancer is biologically complex and requires specific attention and expert interpretation. POM is built exclusively around cancer detection and is overseen by world class oncologists from top cancer centers in the United States.

While platforms like Prenuvo and Biograph emphasize imaging and others such as Function and Superpower focus broadly on lab optimization and general wellness, POM combines multi cancer blood, urine, and stool testing, advanced cancer biomarkers, genetic screening, and imaging in a unified cancer specific strategy.

Our goal is singular: increase the probability that if cancer develops, it is detected at the earliest, most treatable stage, with specialist oversight guiding every step.
